Question 1

How do I place an order?

Accepted Answer

Choose your items in the shop and follow the checkout steps. Available options and next steps are shown before you submit your order.

Question 2

How much notice do you need?

Accepted Answer

Current availability and any required lead time are shown while you order. Your order confirmation will include the timing details you selected.

Question 3

Where and when is pickup?

Accepted Answer

Available pickup choices appear during checkout. The confirmed location, date, and time will be included with your order details.

Question 4

Wait—these are made in a home kitchen?

Accepted Answer

They are. Baker & Taster is a small home-based bakery, which means every batch is mixed, scooped and baked in an actual home kitchen—not a factory, warehouse or mysterious cookie laboratory.

Everyone on our team who handles food holds a current food-handler certification, and we operate in compliance with applicable Texas Cottage Food Production laws. “Homemade” describes where our cookies are baked—not how seriously we take food safety.

Question 5

Why are the cookies so small?

Accepted Answer

Our cookies weigh in at 1 oz before baking. Sometimes 1.1 or 1.2. They are intentionally sized like the classic homemade cookies you remember. This means you can try more than one flavor without needing to lie down afterward.

Question 6

Couldn’t I just make cookies myself?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. You could also grow your own tomatoes, sew your own pants and cut your own hair. The real question is: Do you want to?

We do the measuring, mixing, baking and cleaning. You get the cookies. It’s a beautiful arrangement.

Question 7

Can I pretend I made these?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. We even sell a “Pretend You Made It” package without the frills, so you can put them on your own plate, accept the compliments and remain mysteriously vague about the recipe.

A lot of things in life are aspirational, but cookies should be achievable. We’re happy to help you achieve them.

Question 8

Why don’t you have the same flavors every week?

Accepted Answer

Because the Baker chooses flavors according to inspiration, ingredient availability, the weather, nostalgia and occasionally a whim. We’ll always focus on familiar, classic cookies—but the exact lineup may change. (There will also always be lemon and almond flavors, because those are the Taster’s favorite.)

The Taster has learned to embrace this system.

Question 9

Why don’t all the cookies look exactly alike?

Accepted Answer

Because a person made them.

Our cookies are portioned by hand, so there may be small differences in shape, color and size. We think that’s part of their charm—and reassuring evidence that your cookies did not emerge from an industrial conveyor belt. We do weigh the portions before baking however, and all our cookies are at least 1oz in weight.

Question 10

Do you ship?

Accepted Answer

We don’t. Baker & Taster cookies are delivered in person within the Dallas–Fort Worth area. No shipping means no cookies spending several days touring distribution centers or being left to contemplate life on a hot Texas porch.

Our delivery area and any applicable minimum order or delivery charge will be confirmed when you order.

Question 11

Can I order allergen-free cookies?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately, no. Because we work in a small home kitchen where wheat, eggs, milk, soy, peanuts and tree nuts may be present, we cannot prevent cross-contact or safely guarantee that any product is allergen-free.

If you have a food allergy or serious dietary restriction, our cookies may not be appropriate for you. We take this seriously and would much rather disappoint you than put your health at risk.

Question 12

Do you offer gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan or sugar-free options?

Accepted Answer

Not at this time. Our small kitchen does not allow us to prepare specialty products with the separation and controls they would require. We specialize in traditional cookies made with traditional cookie ingredients.

Question 13

Are the cookies baked fresh?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We bake in small batches because fresh cookies taste better—and because our kitchen is only so big.

Question 14

Who are the Baker and the Taster?

Accepted Answer

The Baker bakes. The Taster performs rigorous quality-control testing under extremely favorable working conditions. Together, they are Baker & Taster.
